I mean the film seems like it’s gonna be awesome. I mean, obviously it’ll be amazing, it’s a Scorsese movie (gosh I love him!). But the real story here is the Netflix part! I love how they are coming out and taking chances as an original content creator and not just relying on Hollywood. Which is good on a number of levels; Hollywood has never really ever had a competitor so if you wanted a movie it was coming from one of the studios or it was a hit or miss indie that maybe wouldn’t have been a “miss” if it had the budget. Or one of those amazing films no one ever sees because it has no backing for a big promo and release. But netflix kinda evens that playing field doesn’t it? Rad. Plus, let’s be honest, it seems all that’s coming out of Hollywood these days is super hero movies, reboots/remakes or a lame sequel. It makes business sense, you;re a massive industry who has a legitimate piracy problem and online streaming services that pay out very little compared to the old days of selling a DVD or tape. You wanna invest only as much as you need to to get a somewhat solid return at the box office. Another avengers movie is gonna (probably) make some cash. So don’t over spend and don’t go out on a limb to make something totally original in case it flops. Same could be said for what shows get made and put on network TV. But then comes netflix who’s like “let’s do this!” And wham, we get the amazingness that is stranger things. I can see why that kind of thinking would appeal to a Scorsese! Rock it out netflix. I can’t wait to see this movie!
